mvblogosphere going horizontal
mvblogs has survived over three and a half years making it arguably one of the most active and the longest surviving social (or anti-social) web project for Maldives. It is no more than a robot which reads the blogs people submitted to it over the years. It then displays the most recent updates. The robot would probably be utterly grateful to the bloggers if it has the capacity to construe what it reads. This robot has read the most controversial writings by Maldivians and this is the only venue for some of them to reach others in the society.
About an year ago (July 2008) someone redesigned mvblogs.org but it wasn’t made online then. It was mainly an [inter-]facelift. It also included tweets and youtube videos from Maldives along with selective formating for displaying Thaana blog posts in addition to previous functions. It had a cascading mechanism for displaying older blog posts (for the period) and orientation was changed to horizontal with an automatic scrolling function. It also had a hidden link to change the orientation with a single click.
Social media has created an opening for a more bottom up system for distributing ideas, disturbing and worrying the traditional top down system. So what about trying something horizontal now, emphasizing equality of expression more? Although it may sound like this is something hard to adopt, why not give it a try?
mvblogs will become horizontal in a few days. You can test drive it now and get ready for this change. There may still be some changes made to the look and feel in the meantime. The feed readers will still get the same results.

xef
it’s so kewwwwl. love what you have done. scrolling down is so yesterday… its for the old and stubborn…. new things are kewl.. keep it up guyzzzz…
I hope i get used to it if you change.. its kind of difficult though!
But im willing to try! new things are always welcomed…
I would say that the new design looks cool. But I would day to view the site up/down is much easy .
So let’s see how it goes
HA! found the “hidden” link to make it vertical. Just press “|” on top left near last updated date. sweet!
there is this problem…wen the mouse move to the right it keep on scrolling…i mean to read the blogs and view flick its ok…bt it happens wen i try to scroll up and down..since my mouse scoller is broken i used to scroll from the bar..
so hope to see it fix :)
my mouse has horizontal scrolling. so it’s not that difficult for me. new design is cool but i’ll miss the old simple design. thaana formating is cool in the new one. and tweets are really good.
I like mvblogoshere because of its simplicity indesign. I have to admit scrolling horizontal is a cool idea. It will take a bit of getting used to, so be it.
I’d like to comment on one thing though:
* The cascading style is a good idea but with the current color theme it is a bit difficult on the eye. Just plain boxes is a bit retro (and the fact that different entries” have different number of cascading boxes - which change the uniform linear expression of the field - makes it look odd; especially when everything else seems so uniform). Perhaps a cascading style like the iPhoto “move over” would be better. That would be very cool. Like 10/10. But another possibility is to shade the cascade sheets to different shades or enable “click-open” cascade function in a way similar to the older style.!
I think the current layout is the best…. but i have to admit you guys have done a great job in making it horizontal….. it not so user friendly…..
dont fuking to it. i know where you live buh ha hah haha
Ideas may differ. As for me, the present one seems easier. In anyway, had you change it, we will get used to that too. One thing is sure. mvblogoshere is easy to use and does help very blogger. Best of luck in future too.
Design is very cool. It takes away from the way we are used to navigating sites. But this also gives us a chance to consider a new way. Only a brave service will change it. And I will welcome the change.
Its easy to scroll down
[…] with the features stated previously plus a few more power mvblogs.org will go horizontal today. 26th July 2009 marks the 44th […]
The new website design is very bad i suggest you to revert to the old one.Its really nice.but thus new one is crappy….
